President/Owner

KATHLEEN BIRKEL DANGELO

Kathleen received her Bachelors of Arts, Summa Cum Laude, from The University of Akron in 1987 and her Juris Doctor, Summa Cum Laude, from Cleveland State University, John Marshall School of Law, in 1990. In addition to practicing law, Kathleen worked with her husband, Andy, to develop The Ohio Valley Group, Inc. one of northeast Ohio’s premier landscape design/build companies. Kathleen was able to combine her legal and business acumen, developed from years of practicing law and managing The Ohio Valley Group, and her love of travel and architectural spaces to create Sapphire Creek Winery & Gardens. Sapphire Creek Winery & Gardens is Kathleen and Andy’s dream project. Sapphire Creek embodies modern aesthetics, coupled with a warm and inviting atmosphere, outstanding gardens and world class wine and food. After construction of Sapphire Creek Winery, the Dangelos formed a separate operating company with the Gibsons to allow for the successful operation and management of Sapphire Creek Winery. Sapphire Creek truly brings the Napa experience to northeast Ohio.

ANDREW F. DANGELO

Andy graduated from The Ohio State University at Wooster in 1985 with a degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design.  He later received his arborist certification from The International Society of Arboriculture. Andy has had a life-long passion for the outdoors.  He started The Ohio Valley Group, Inc. in 1987 and, along with his wife Kathleen, has grown the company to one of the premier design/build and landscape maintenance companies in northeast Ohio. Sapphire Creek Winery reflects his passion for gardening and architecture and his unique grasp of how to create amazing outdoor spaces.

Executive Chef & Owner

KIMBERLY MCCUNE GIBSON

Chef Kimberly McCune Gibson’s roots are planted deeply in the memory of her Geauga County childhood, where her parents established early, lasting, and intertwining beliefs about the nature of food and community. As a student at the Auburn Career Center, she was supported by the community with scholarship awards that allowed her to train in classical European cuisine at the CIA in Hyde Park, New York. She now champions the “Farmer to Restaurant” and “Pasture to Plate” causes and is a strong supporter of independent restaurant operators everywhere.


Kimberly’s passion for food led her to form Hungry Bee Kitchen, LLC., which specializes in personal chef services, catering, and event planning. In 2016, Hungry Bee Kitchen landed the impressive Republican National Convention food service operations. This, in turn, catapulted Hungry Bee’s corporate catering sector. In 2016, The Gibson Chefs also opened their health-conscious eatery, Cultivate, in Chagrin Falls.  Kimberly has impressively appeared on the Food Network on several occasions.

JAMES “JIMMY” GIBSON

Chef Jimmy Gibson was raised in a family rich in food heritage. Grandson of a well-known butcher and business owner, Jimmy discovered his passion for food at a young age when visiting his grandfather’s butcher shop. After attending Ohio University, this Benedictine graduate realized that his passion for food could not be ignored and followed his heart into the kitchen. Working from the bottom up to master his craft, Jimmy worked at Fire in Shaker Heights, where he learned the inner operations of running a restaurant. The skills he obtained at Fire led him to an opportunity at Moxie and its sister restaurant, Red the Steakhouse, in Beachwood where he continued his craft for 9 years. Jimmy is the youngest chef to be invited to cook at the world renowned James Beard House twice and had the incredible opportunity to cater New York Fashion Week. The passion and love of food that Jimmy has can easily be seen with the creative menus he has written at Sapphire Creek.

Executive Chef

RICK BENNETT IV

Chef Rick is a Ravenna, Ohio native who began his culinary career at 14 years old when he started washing dishes at “Cipriano’s” at the Windmill Lakes Golf Course. He graduated from Ravenna High School a year early to join the United States Marine Corps as an enlisted man. After leaving the Marine Corps, he attended Kent State University for Applied Mathematics/Probability and statistics before deciding to take a different path. He attended Northeast Ohio Culinary Institute. Upon graduation, he moved to Baltimore where he worked at Oceanaire Seafood Room training under Ben Erjavec. He returned to Ohio to work for Brandt Evans at Blue Canyon in Twinsburg. He then made the move to Cleveland where he worked at Lola Bistro under Michael Symon and Derek Clayton. He also credits his success to three-time James Beard Award semifinalist (pastry) Cory Barrett.

 

Director of Events & Marketing

SALLY WEINBERG

Sally has been with Sapphire Creek since August 2018 bringing over 15 years of industry experience to the team. Her role as Director of Events & Marketing allows her to continue to be involved in the Cleveland business community, while also being innovative, creative, and contributing to the foundation that will leverage the growth and success of Sapphire Creek for years to come. “It is incredibly rewarding to be part of such a special project. I am honored to be here!”


Prior to joining Sapphire Creek Winery, Sally worked in various roles helping clients grow their businesses through marketing and event strategies, and spent close to a decade leading marketing, events and programming, and client relations within the private club industry.


Sally received her Bachelor’s degree from Kent State University with a major in Organizational Communications, a Minor in Marketing and a Concentration in Applied Conflict Management. She recently went back to school fulfilling her passion for health and wellness receiving a certification as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in 2018. Her passion for people and business have allowed her to build a valuable network both personally and professionally.

JASON CHAPPLE

Jason brings over 12 years of industry experience to Sapphire Creek Winery. Jason received his Bachelor’s degree, with honors, in Business Management with a focus in Marketing from Hiram College. Jason’s passion is to utilize his skill-set to elevate the overall customer experience for every patron who enters Sapphire Creek Winery.   

His love for the spirits industry led him down the pathway of becoming a master mixologist. Jason has been crafting cocktails for many years and has developed an incredible palate. All of Sapphire Creek’s signature cocktails have been designed, tasted and approved by Jason.

ANN RUPPELT

Ann epitomizes the guest experience. Her 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry ensures her commitment to exceeding each guest’s expectations. Ann’s background includes hospitality management at some of Cleveland’s most prestigious restaurants including Severance Hall, The Intercontinental Hotel, Johnny’s on Fulton, and Johnny’s Downtown. Ann’s “hands-on” management style ensures guest satisfaction and staff commitment. Furthermore, Ann is fully trained in T.I.P.S. (Training for Intervention Procedures). Ann is thrilled to continue her career as Sapphire Creek’s Restaurant and Event Manager.

KATHRYN CHAPPLE

Kathryn Chapple has been with Sapphire Creek since opening day. She brings a unique value to Sapphire Creek Winery with her experience in client communications and operational excellence. Born and raised in Chagrin Falls, Kathryn moved back home after living out of state while attending school and working for nearly 10 years. Kathryn graduated Cum Laude from Saint Mary’s College in 2004 and from graduate school at the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2013.

Wedding Manager & Coordinator

EMILY JOSEPH

Emily has been with Sapphire Creek Winery since opening day. Beginning her career in middle-school education, Emily soon came to realize she wanted to take a deeper dive into the event industry once being introduced to the Winery. Her fresh perspective, attention to detail and love for planning are all the elements needed to be a success in the wedding and event industries.


Emily has managed numerous weddings since joining the team and is entrenched in all the ins and outs of what makes a successful wedding at Sapphire Creek Winery – making her a perfect fit for this role. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University in 2018 and looks forward to continuing to build her career with Sapphire Creek Winery.

Administrator

LEE CAIN

As Office Administrator, Lee coordinates the many tasks that keep our office running smoothly. Lee graduated with a degree in Sociology form University of Arkansas. Originally from Texas, Lee moved to the Chagrin Valley with her husband and four children three years ago. Her corporate background includes retail buying and merchandising. In her free time, Lee enjoys volunteering with local organizations in the Chagrin Valley.
